Reeve's Pheasant

Reeve's Pheasant is a beautiful and bright winged bird.  The body of the male has golden white and red hairs and wings.

  Gray legs, brown eye patch and red skin around the lower eye.  The head is white, and there is a narrow black stripe outside the eye.  The male has a long silvery-reddish coat.



The substance is brown in color.  The tail is grayish brown in color.  It is named after British           naturalist John Reeves,                                                                                                                             

Who first introduced it to Europe in 1831.  This large pheasant grows up to 82 inches (210 cm)      long.                                                                                                                                                             

 This magnificent pheasant has been commemorated in the Guinness Book of World                         Records as having the longest feathered tail of any bird species,                                                         

These pheasants are known to be aggressive towards humans, animals and pheasants.                     

Range/Habitat 

The reeves pheasant is native to the evergreen forests of central and eastern China.  They have been introduced to Hawaii, 

France, and the United Kingdom, where their variants have been created.  Deforestation, lack of food and poaching for their tails have red listed their species.

Breeding 

The breeding season for Reeves' pheasants usually begins in April or May, and each clutch consists of 8 to 16 eggs.  Which incubates in 25 days

Diet    

 Reeves pheasants are omnivores.

 They eat seeds, fruit pulp, flower buds, beans and grains. They also often eat insects and termites.  They live in bushes and fields 

Housing

 Reeves' pheasants are unique because the male has an unusually long tail, which can measure up to 2.4 meters, 7.9 feet long.

Reeves prefer open woodland habitats. They are happy in aviaries around 259 square feet or      larger.
