Breeding

Quails build nests on the ground. They prefer open plains, wheat, maize, millet fields and breed in scrub and grassy areas.

Quails start mating in 2 months, female quail lays 8 to 12 eggs.

The color of the eggs is greenish-brown with sharp brown spots. The young quails are called chicks.

The period of hatching from the eggs is 17 to 18 days. Quails reach maturity in 50 to 60 days. In the wild, quails live for 3 to 5 years.

Quail Aviculture

Quail aviculture is done for quail meat and their eggs.
And in different parts of the world they are kept for commercial purposes.
The most widely kept breed is the Japanese Bitter.
The farming started in the 11th century. The weight of farm quail is about 100 to 138 grams. 80% of quail are farmed in China,

and the European Union produces 100 million quails a year and 1.6 million are farmed in the rest of the world.
Females start laying eggs at 7 to 8 weeks and are slaughtered at 8 to 9 months of age.

The quail raised for meat are slaughtered in 30 to 40 days. For good quail farming, ensure the natural life of the quails for their physical and mental health.

Aviculture Diet

In farming, 2-month-old quail eats 30 grams of food per day.

Quails require 400 grams of feed to lay 10 to 12 eggs. When quails start laying eggs,

cooking oil can be used in 75 kg of mash feed, i.e. re-grinding it into fine particles.

Housing

The basic aspect of quail farming is housing. For good quail farming,

good housing is a guarantee of quail's physical and mental health.

Their accommodation should be ventilated and at a suitable temperature.
50 quails can be kept comfortably in a 48 inch i.e. 4 feet cage.

Brooding

Brooding, the place where the chicks are kept after they are taken out of the incubator, is called a brooder,

in which the temperature is kept according to the age of the chicks and a specific method such as a special place for the chicks,
soft grass or rice husks.

The floor, small pots, airy light and access of chicks to fine food are all included in the category of brooding methods.
